Creating Safer Spaces: Embodying your Commitment to Trans Inclusion

This workshop has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. Please subscribe to my newsletter to be updated when information about the next offering is available.

A 12hr trans 101+ — we’ll explore trans 101 concepts and go beyond.

In this six-session series, we’ll spend time in community to deeply explore how to embody a commitment to equity, inclusion, justice, and liberation for trans, non-binary, and queer community members. This offering will hold space for us to reflect on the construct of gender and its individual and collective impact, ways to be in a practice of challenging our implicit bias and the assumptions we might make about one another’s identities, an exploration of harm—both how it manifests for our queer siblings and how we can engage in repair and healing, what accountability really looks like, and skill-building for us to authentically create and hold safer spaces that genuinely welcome, include, and affirm trans, non-binary, and queer individuals. We’ll also explore conversations about topics such as intersectionality, social location, privilege and proximity to power, and we’ll unpack how we can engage in more inclusive, liberatory branding and marketing in our work.

Who is this for:

This workshop series is open to everyone—space-holders of all kinds, including teachers, coaches, parents, facilitators…regardless of your gender identity and regardless of the work you do in the world, anyone who wants to understand their role in the work of trans solidarity and liberation is welcome! If you’ve ever wanted to go beyond trans 101, or if you’re looking for answers to questions like: How do I notice when harm occurs and how do I interrupt it? Do I use womxn in my marketing? What if I want to create a space for women only? Is it best to use ‘they/them’ for anyone who’s pronouns we don’t know? How do I support a student or community member who is in the beginning of their gender transition?
…this space is for you.

What to expect:

Guided meditation and opportunities for grounding, reflection and journaling prompts, group conversation, multimedia slide deck learning, and so much more.

For the sake of accessibility, all sessions will be recorded with live captioning; replays will be shared with those who register. Please attend as many of the live sessions as possible in order to make the most of this learning space.

What people are saying…

In my three years and a half years at LoveYourBrain, I have never experienced conversation like we had today, in our session with Tristan on Creating Trans Affirming Spaces. Tristan is deeply thoughtful, and incredibly generous in their time and offerings. I know that their work will carry infinite ripples of impact to not only the LoveYourBrain community at large, but each of our staff personally. I hope Tristan continues to feel such a strong sense of the impact of their teachings, and importantly, their delivery, and how tangible/accessible they make learning.
— Amber Davey, previous program manager at LoveYourBrain

Tristan taught me best practices for ensuring my trans siblings are included in yoga and wellness spaces in their Creating Safer Spaces workshops. They give us room for the messiness, for the inquiry, for the learning and unlearning. Tristan creates honest, heart-centered, supportive and affirming containers full of bravery and compassion.
— Janesa Velazquez, yoga teacher and co-owner of Ambry Yoga

THANK YOU!!! Your workshop was outstanding! Well-organized, thoughtful, and accessible without being too basic. I have two signs in my house with the Maya Angelou quote “do your best until you know better and when you know better, do better.” I know it isn’t necessarily your responsibility to educate people in the way you do, but it is a game changer and I thank you for doing so. That is intense work for you, but I am grateful for the game changers like you who help the rest of us know better so that we can do better. I hate pulling my mom card, but as a mom I am so hopeful that my kid won’t grow up with the same constraints because of people like you. Thank you!!
